We parents want the best possible lives for our children. We have high hopes for them and certainly in Jewish Tradition, we want them to reach their highest potential and even do and be better than us. We know as parents that each child faces the world with sensitivities that are unique to him or her: our kids see the world with imaginations that at times cause us to say, “my God, did my kid really say that; what an insight!”
We also know that our children learn in different ways, not always within the box of usual expectations. Children with special needs deserve to be given the opportunities for accomplishments just as any other children. And this is true for children with special needs who want to have a Bar or Bat Mitzvah.
What we offer is a Bar or Bat Mitzvah specifically tailored to your child’s needs. This can take the form of a service where your child recites as much Hebrew as he or she is able to learn or none at all. The preparation for such a service would include a Hebrew tutor who has rich experience teaching a special needs child (if there is to be any Hebrew) and meeting with Rabbi Ron and your child. The length for preparation for a special Bar or Bat Mitzvah can be as short as eight weeks or the usual ten months. This way, each child receives the personal attention they deserve.
