I will perform a wedding ceremony between two men or two women. After all, in the Book of Genesis, according to the Hebrew Bible, God creates human beings in God’s own Divine Image. And while some folks I am sure disagree with me, I believe that we are created in the divine image regardless of our gender or sexual orientation.
I have held this belief for a long, long time. In fact, I was the first and only congregational rabbi in the late eighties to speak on Yom Kippur for the necessity of including the gay and lesbian population in our congregations in San Diego, California. (In those days the term LGBT had not yet come into existence.)
I welcome you and embrace you; and just like any other couple who comes to me, I will meet with you and work to create a wonderful wedding or commitment ceremony infused with joy and celebration that will also reflect who you are as beings created in the “Divine Image.”
